Ngima Sherpa took a group of 12 from New Zealand Federated Mountain Clubs on the Annapurna circuit in November 2004. It was a wonderful trip and a lot of the credit must go to Ngima and his assistants. They organised everything with great care and attention to detail. Ngima always sent one of his assistant guides running on ahead to find the best possible lodge for us. When preparing to cross the Thorung La, he checked that everybody was acclimatised sufficiently and got us all up in the early hours of the morning to give plenty of time for the climb and long descent to Muktinath. Ngima and his guides were always cheerful and encouraging. They paid special attention to the slower members of the party, offering help when needed but never in an obtrusive manner. Ngima is a good manager of his assistant guides and porters. He has many contacts throughout Nepal which can help to solve transport or accommodation problems. We can thoroughly recommend Ngima and his company.
Ken Fraser - Wellington, New Zealand. Leader of New Zealand FMC trip around Annapurna November 2004.In November 2001 my father, two of his tramping friends, and myself trekked the Anapurna Circuit in Nepal. This once in a lifetime trip turned into a truly extraordinary experience due to the fact that we were blessed to have Ngima as our guide.
When you meet Ngima for the first time you are greeted by a wise and sincere face; and as you get to know him you become aware that he is one of those rare people who you will always want to know.
Without Ngima (and our hard-working porters!) I know that my experience of Nepal and it’s mountains would not have been as memorable or as fulfilling as it was. Ngima’s fantastic organisational abilities and his capacity to make everyone feel at peace made sure of that. I cannot recommend this man highly enough as a guide and am proud to be able to call him a friend.
Judy Hunter - London, EnglandIn October 2000 I was lucky enough to go on trek with Ngima Sherpa. I had known of him for several years as one of my good friends had been trekking 8 times and had met Ngima as a young porter. My friend thought there was something special about him and kept up a correspondence with him and each succeeding trek renewed her friendship with him.
I would highly recommend Ngima Sherpa and his company. Ngima has a high level of integrity and compassion but he also has a real sense of fun with a great laugh. He treats his team well and you can see the respect they have for him. Often he does use family members and/or people from his village. We have had his uncle, brother-in-law, cousins and men from families that we visited in his village.
On the camping trips his equipment was a high standard, food was tasty and in abundance and every effort was made to make the trip enjoyable. Ngima maintains a high level of hygiene and on our 18 day camping trip, not a single one of us even had a twinge of gastric problems. He walked around the camping area as we left and picked up every bit of rubbish—this level of awareness is unusual.
Arlis Kempf, Victoria, AustraliaIn 2001 we looked at the various large and highly organised trekking companies and the treks they had available. It seemed to us that we would have a more enjoyable time if we could find a guide for our small party of four and set, with their assistance, our own itinerary.
Fortunately some friends had trekked with Ngima Sherpa on several occasions and recommended him highly to us. Ngima agreed to take us around the Annapurna Circuit and we enjoyed this trek immensely. We had the companionship of Ngima and the two young porters Kazi and Dawa with their infectious humour, met many local people and had plenty of opportunities to acclimatise to the altitude under Ngima’s careful guidance.
With his own organisation, Ngima has the capacity and resources to successfully arrange treks to individual requirements. This, added to his long experience and complete competence in the mountains, makes him an obvious first choice as an organiser and guide. We recommend him without any reservation.
When we return to Nepal it will be to trek with Ngima Sherpa.
